The meeting will be held May 31st-June 1st at the Renaissance Hotel in Montgomery and will be host to some great presenters! Topics such as syndesmosis surgery and rehabilitation, current trends in concussions, student-athlete mental health, preventing posterior shoulder dislocations, hands-on break-out sessions on the topics of joint reductions and new concussion evaluation techniques, emerging practices in adaptive sports, and much more.

We are especially excited to be hosting Mr. Rod Walters for both of our offered EBP courses this year! He will be presenting on evidence-based EAPs and medical services for collegiate and secondary school programs.

We are especially excited to be offering our first annual Student Symposium the morning of May 31st. This event is open to any students interested in or currently pursuing a degree in athletic training. Information on the transition to the entry-level masters, student-based research presentations, meet-and-great and open discussion with some of our ALATA Hall of Fame members, information from all of the programs in the state on their current or upcoming master’s programs, and a taping competition are a just a few things students will have the opportunity to be involved in during this symposium. Did we mention there will also be free pizza and prizes?!

Do you know anyone that deserves recognition for his or her work this year? Please consider nominating one person for either the High School Athletic Training Award, Clinical/Industrial/Corporate Athletic Training Award, College/University Athletic Training Award, Award of Merit, Sports Medicine Person of the Year Award, or the Sponsors Award. For additional information about each Award, click here.

All award recipients (with the exception of Sports Medicine Person of the Year and Sponsors Award) must be members of the Alabama Athletic Trainers Association. Deadline for submitting nominations is May 1, 2019. Only ALATA members may formally nominate candidates for awards. Non-ALATA members may contact the respective ALATA Honors and Awards Committee Representative to suggest a nomination and provide appropriate documentation. Honors and Awards Committee members may also nominate candidates for awards. Please note that there will be two position vacancies on the Alabama Board of Athletic Trainers effective 12/31/19. Both positions are to be held by Alabama-licensed athletic trainers. Nominations are limited to Alabama-licensed athletic trainers who are citizens of the United States and this state, and have acted as athletic trainers for three years within this state immediately preceding appointment. Only athletic trainers currently licensed by the Alabama Board of Athletic Trainers are able to nominate qualified athletic trainers meeting the above requirements, and only licensed athletic trainers are able to vote. Furthermore, since these are Board positions rather than ALATA positions, athletic trainers do not have to be a member of ALATA to nominate, be nominated, or vote.

ALATA is conducting this election on behalf of the Alabama Board of Athletic Trainers; therefore, please email your nominations to ALATA Secretary Daniel Lindsey, alatasec@gmail.com. You may nominate one person for each position. If you are nominating someone, please indicate the Board position and provide their full name and their place of employment so that their eligibility and acceptance of the nomination can be verified. Please provide your full name and Alabama license number as well. Please email nominations by April 30, 2019. Nominations will close on April 30, 2019, at midnight if at least two qualified persons are nominated.
